Help for guests
Getting the best from your guide app
The app from the place you’re staying or visiting: their own information, and the best of the area around them. Here’s how to make the most of it. In the app, the same tips are under How to use this app, in Settings and at the bottom of More info.
Opening the app
Scan the QR code where you’re staying, or tap the link they sent you. It opens straight away in your phone’s browser, with nothing to download.
Put it on your home screen
Press Download the app (or, on an iPhone, Share then Add to Home Screen). It then opens with one tap, like any other app, and works even where there’s no signal.
Finding your way around
The big buttons on the home screen take you to the things guests use most. Tap More info for everything else. The arrow at the top takes you back, and the cog opens Settings.
Places nearby
Pubs, places to eat, shops, walks and days out are listed nearest first, with how far they are. Tap a place for its opening times, website and phone number, Directions to get there, and its reviews on Google Maps.
What’s On
Markets, music, shows and family days nearby for the next three months. Tap Add to calendar to save one to your phone, or Add an event to tell everyone about one.
Directions
Directions open in Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze: you choose the first time you tap Directions. You can change it in Settings.
Make it easier to read
In Settings you can make the writing bigger and choose how the home screen buttons are laid out. It only changes your phone.
Your language
Where the business has added languages, the app opens in your phone’s language. You can choose another in Settings. Translations are automatic, so English is the original.
No signal?
Once you’ve opened it, the app keeps working without a signal: its pages, the places nearby and What’s On are saved on your phone. Maps, websites and new searches need a signal.
Send your photos
Where the app has Send us a photo, you can send the business your pictures from your stay, with a few words if you like.
Share it
Travelling with friends or family? Use Share the app so everyone has it on their own phone.
Something wrong or closed?
If a place has closed or something isn’t right, tell the business using the Contact details in the app.
Is it free and private?
Yes, it’s free. The app only counts how it’s used (totals, nothing that identifies you), and you can switch even that off in Settings.
